Google San Francisco - Even mighty Google is feeling the effects of the global recession. The advertising and software giant is cutting 100 recruiting jobs and plans to shutter three engineering offices in Norway, Sweden and Texas, the company announced.

Laszlo Bock, Google's vice president of people operations, said in a blog post late Wednesday that since Google is now hiring at a reduced rate it needs fewer people to hire people.

The company had a huge number of recruiters working as it scaled up from a two person operation to a workforce of over 25,000 in just a decade.

Senate panel votes to confirm Clinton as secretary of state

Hillary ClintonWashington - A Senate committee voted Thursday to confirm Hillary Clinton as secretary of state, sending her nomination to the full chamber for final approval.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted 16-1 to make Clinton the next top US diplomat. The vote in the full Senate could come before president-elect Barack Obama is sworn into office on Tuesday.

Obama tapped his formal rival for the Democratic presidential nomination to head foreign policy, bringing in a face familiar to the rest of the world and someone who has built strong foreign policy credentials during her time in the Senate.

Washington, Jan 15 : Troubled singer Amy Winehouse has been honoured for her performance at the Grammy Awards last February.

Her show has been nominated as part of Britain''s Creativity + Business International Network''s 2008 review, by Universal Music Group, the Rehab hitmaker''s record label.

Winehouse was due to perform in the US, but because of her 2007 for possession of cannabis in Norway, she was denied a visa and performed her hits `You Know I''m No Good' and `Rehab' via satellite from London.

Universal boss Lucian Grange said that the singer''s talents were worthy of the honour, which had been set up to focus on the UK''s creative economy, produced through the art and entertainment industries.
