Obama’s exercise routine could leave his predecessors gasping

Barack ObamaLondon, November 7: U. S. President-elect Barack Obama, 47, follows much heavier an exercise routine as compared to most of his predecessors.

He says that exercise lets him remain fresh and focused despite a lot of pressure.

"The main reason I do it is just to clear my head and relieve me of stress. My blood pressure is pretty low and I tend to be a healthy eater," the Guardian quoted him as telling American fitness magazine Men’s Health.

Representative Rahm Emanuel is a former Clinton Administration official and a fellow member of Congress from Illinois and the President elect says that he selected Rahm for the crucial job because he has "deep insights into the challenging economic issues that will be front and center for our administration."

Achilles' heel of pancreatic cancer identified

Washington, Nov 7 : Researchers from UC Davis Cancer Centre have identified a metabolic deficiency in pancreatic cancer cells that can be used to slow the progression of one of the most fatal cancers.

They have found that pancreatic cancer cells cannot produce the amino acid arginine, which plays an essential role in cell division, wound healing, immune function and hormone regulation.

By depleting arginine levels in cell cultures and animal models, the team was able to significantly reduce pancreatic cancer-cell proliferation.

US Centcom chief says strikes in Pak tribal areas have killed top Qaeda, Taliban leaders

US Central Command chief Gen David PetraeusKabul, Nov 7 : US Central Command chief Gen David Petraeus has reportedly said that the US’ missile strikes in Pakistan’s Tribal Areas had killed three of the top 20 Al Qaeda and Taliban leaders in recent months.

He, however, did not identify the leaders who had been killed in such strikes.

Petraeus’ statement is seen as a justification of the US strikes, especially in the wake of recent protests from Islamabad against such strikes, saying that they violated Pakistan’s sovereignty.
