AirAsia to launch direct Kuala Lumpur-Tiruchi flightMalaysia-based low-cost air-carrier, AirAsia, has announced that it intends to roll out its operations in India with a daily direct flight between Kuala Lumpur and Tiruchirapalli from coming month (December).

According to the sources, AirAsia would start its daily direct flight to Tiruchirapalli from Kuala Lumpur with a brand new fleet of Airbus A-320.

To draw the clientele, the airline offers a special fares of Rs 699 (excluding airport taxes, fuel surcharges, etc) on the Kuala Lumpur-Tiruchirapalli flight.

Malaysia prepares for massive evacuations ahead of annual flooding

Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia has announced preparations to accommodate tens of thousands of evacuees ahead of forecast flooding in several states next month, official news reports said Friday.

A total of 4,595 flood evacuation centres have been set up after the Meteorological Department's forecast of unusually high rainfall in December and January, Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak said.

He said 1,775 boats and 20 helicopters have been set aside for rescue work in areas usually affected by the annual flooding, adding that 1,182 health and medical teams have been placed on standby.

Vietnam finds melamine in imported milk, cookies

Hanoi - Vietnamese health authorities have found the industrial chemical melamine in powdered milk imported from Australia and three brands of cookies imported from Malaysia, raising the number of melamine-tainted products found in the country to 29, health officials said Thursday.

Nguyen Thi Khanh Tram, deputy director of Vietnam's Food Hygiene and Safety Agency, said the importers were cooperating with the agency's request to recall the milk and cookies.

The tainted Gold 1-10 milk powder was produced in Australia in May. The cookies - known as Lexus Cheese Cream, Lexus Chocolate Cream and Lexus Peanut Cream - were produced in Malaysia in May and August.
