Tata Tele Launches GSM Services

TataCountry’s second largest telecom operator, Tata Teleservices announced the launch of mobile services on the GSM platform under the Tata DoCoMo brand.

Tata Tele would invest $2 billion for rolling out the services across the country under the Tata DoCoMo brand.

The service would be commercially rolled out towards the end of this month in the southern states of the country.

By the end of 2009, the company will expand services on the GSM platform across the country.

Speaking on this, Anil Sardana (MD, Tata Teleservices Limited) said, “Tata DoCoMo is a natural choice of GSM brand-name for us, since it will provide customers a dual advantage-trusted service from the house of Tata, riding on the technological superiority of NTT DOCOMO.”

Tata has been given GSM spectrum for 18 out of 22 telecom circles.

It should be noted here that the Indian telecom major entered into an agreement with NTT DoCoMo in November 2008, under which the Japanese company acquired the
26 percent stake for $2.7 billion.

NTT DOCOMO is recognized as a universal leader in 3G technology and valued globally for its ultramodern product innovations.

With this, Tata has become the second telecom company after Reliance Communication to be offering services on both CDMA and GSM platforms.
