Tata announces its first CDM project in Maharashtra
On Wednesday, Tata Power said that its power project in Ahmednagar district, Maharashtra is its first official Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project. The name of the wind farm is Khandke and is one of its major power project.
The total capacity of the farm is 50.4 MW and was commissioned three years back in December, 2007.
It has also got the necessary approval from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Tata Power said.
Tata Power has over recent time given a lot of emphasis on green technology based power generation and in India wind power is one of the major source for that.
Khandke is the first CDM-registered project and a step ahead for the firm. Tata expects that it will be able to earn ~85,000 Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) annually from UNFCCC.
Tata already has a capacity to generate 200 MW of wind power and as part of its latest plans it will be adding another 150-200 MW in form of capacity in another 12 months time.
CDM is an instrument under the Kyoto Protocol which aims at achieving cost-effective and sustainable development.
