Strike at Hyundai plant hits production

Strike at Hyundai plant hits productionOn Monday, employees of Hyundai Motors India Ltd. (HMIL) went on flash strike. This happened at the Sriperumbudur plant of the company which is situated in South India.

The employees of the manufacturing unit are demanding that 60 of their co-workers should be reinstated. These 60 people where dismissed by Hyundai last year.

As many as 1,500 employees have gone on strike and this has directly hit the production of the company.

Talking about this, the Vice President of Hyundai Motor India Employees Union Thangapandiyan said that the production in the plant has come to a standstill and that is hurting the company badly.

Obviously, Hyundai Motors has dismissed the claims saying that only 150-200 workers have gone on strike. It also said that it will be soon declaring the strike illegal and in case will not surrender to the demands of the striking employees.

Currently, there are 1,000 workers working in that plant and the monthly capacity of the plant is 50,000 units.

In July,2009 the management and the labor union had signed a contact as per which 20 of the 87 employees were reinstated. It had also increased the salaries by 21-24 per cent.
