Strategy Analytics: Samsung grabbed top spot in Chinese market in 2012The latest statistics released by Strategy Analytics in a new report have revealed that the 2012 sales figures of Samsung's smartphones in China was 30.06 million units, which was almost three-fold more than the 2011 sales - of 10.90 million units - of the company's handsets in the country.

Going by the Strategy Analytics' figures, Samsung's smartphone sales in China in 2012 helped the South Korean company gain a noteworthy 17.7 percent control of the Chinese market; thus giving it a substantial lead over its rivals. Finnish handset-maker Nokia plunged from its top-ranking position, and its previous year's 29.9 percent share, to the seventh spot, with a merely 3.7 percent share.

The Strategy Analytics' data further showed that the second place in the Chinese market in 2012 was grabbed by local tech-device manufacturer Lenovo, which controlled 13.2 percent of the country's market; with Apple positioned at the third sport with an 11 percent share.

The figures also revealed that Huawei and Coolpad were in the fourth and fifth spot, with their respective Chinese market share of 9.9 percent and 9.7 percent.

The figures shared by Strategy Analytics in its latest report clearly show that Samsung notched up to the top slot in the Chinese market for the first time, largely - according to the industry observers' opinion - because of the company's endeavors to work with Chinese carriers as well as its growing brand recognition.
