Steyn cleared of doping charge: CSA

Dale SteynProteas fast bowler Dale Steyn has been cleared of any doping offence by the Indian Premier League (IPL), Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed on Wednesday.

However, confusion still surrounds the manner in which Steyn originally tested positive for morphine during the IPL season 2.

Earlier on Tuesday, Cricket SA confirmed the positive test, but soon afterwards Lalit Modi, IPL commissioner informed the media persons that no player had tested positive for any banned substance.

Later on Wednesday, Cricket SA CEO, Gerald Majola said: "There was a discrepancy in the result of a doping test during the IPL, but the authorities are satisfied with the explanation Dale provided and confirmed that no offence had been committed."

Majola added that CSA remained committed to the ICC 's anti- doping programme.

With this move, the 26 year old premier fast bowler has also been cleared for South Africa in next month's Champions Trophy.

It may be recalled that Steyn, at present playing for the Indian Premiere League (IPL) team Bangalore Royal Challengers, was under the scanner after he took painkiller during the second season of IPL Twenty20 tournament in South Africa.
