Sydney, Dec 11 : South African batsman A. B. de Villiers has rated Australia's rookie finger spinner Jason Krejza as "nothing too special".

These have been a trying few weeks for Krejza, omitted from the Gabba Test 10 days after a 12-wicket debut in Nagpur, then injured on the eve of the second Test against New Zealand, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.

Yesterday he returned to Adelaide, the scene of his untimely ankle sprain, and promptly found himself competing not only against the South Australians but also the preconceptions of the South Africans, who await him in Perth.

"They definitely lack in the spin department and the fifth bowler. We're not necessarily going to go out and attack that area. It depends on the conditions and the situations you''re playing. He looks like a normal, orthodox off spinner. There's nothing too special that we've got to worry about," de Villiers said.

This is not the first time the South Africans have questioned Krejza's ability.

Writing for the Cricket Nirvana website after India's series win over Australia, Proteas coach Mickey Arthur admitted "to feeling slightly puzzled by the way in which nobody seemed to notice that (Krejza's 12 wickets in Nagpur) cost almost 30 runs each!"

Arthur yesterday said he would be studying the tape of Krejza's performance against South Australia. "That will give us a better indication of how he bowls in Australian conditions," he said.

Krejza appeared in little discomfort yesterday in his first match since the Nagpur Test. The 25-year-old took 1-45 from seven overs and blasted a quick-fire 20 with the bat, running aggressively between the wickets, proving to selectors his recovery from the ankle sprain is close to completion.
