Somdev-DevvarmanThe Indian tennis star Somdev Devvarman has confirmed Indian team berth in the Davis Cup World Group after he ousted South Africa's Rik Voest in the reverse singles match of the Davis Cup tie on Sunday. Indian team has made into World Group playoff after a long period of 11 years.

Somdev defeated Voest in a five setter match by 3-6, 6-7 (3), 7-6 (5), 6-2, 6-4 after a marathon of four hours and 44 minutes at the Ellis Park Arena indoor courts, Johannesburg. Somdev lost first two sets but came back strongly in the last three sets to win the match.

After trailing by 0-2 against his lower ranked opponent, Somdev used his experience of playing in the college level tennis tournaments in United States to outline Voest in front of a massive crowd of 1000 spectators.

Mahesh Bhupathi was excited by this win and he said that this is a historic moment for India as they have won first Davis Cup tie on foreign soil and this win is without any contribution from him and Leander Paes which makes it special.

Yuki Bhambhri could be given chance to make debut in the international arena in the fifth match as Rohan Bopanna is struggling with his sore knee.
