Snack attack
Say no to those tempting potato chips. There are plenty of other quick eats you can indulge in without feeling guilty
Even on days when you eat three full meals, there’s always a temptation to get that soda and munch on something. Let’s begin by busting one of the biggest myths – Snacking is healthy. But what matters is the kind of snacks you indulge in.
At the workplace, it may seem like there’s no time for healthy eating. And when you do stop to eat, you take the quick and easy route by grabbing a bar of chocolate, biscuits or a sinful bag of potato chips. If you have a hectic schedule, it’s even more important to eat healthy and stay fuelled all day. Snacking on nutritious food can keep your energy levels high and your mind alert without consuming too much of your time. What we don’t realise is that it’s very simple to treat ourselves to healthy snacks, without putting in much effort.
Chew on this
“Dried fruits are very nutritious and are easy to carry to your work place. You can store them in small jars and they last long,” says Lisha Kura, a nutritionist at Fitness One Pink. “Light and simple snacks can also mean fruits like apples, pears and oranges. People who sell cut fruits can be found in almost every corner these days,” she adds. An easier option would be having fruit juices at shops nearby, or carrying packed juices by Tropicana or Real. Nuts like almonds, pistachio and walnuts are wholesome foods, but it’s better to avoid cashew and raisins as they have a higher fat content. Vegetables like carrots, baby corn, peppers and tomatoes can be teamed with sprouted beans or tuna and mixed with low-fat dressings. Yes, it means you stay away from digging into that jar of mayonnaise.
