Six Sonography Machines Sealed In Mumbai

In a major drive to check on the status of implementation of various PNDT rules in the Six Sonography Machines Sealed In Mumbai city’s clinics, a team of National Inspection and Monitoring Committee (NIMC) has sealed six back to back ultra sonography machines in Mira road and Bhayander, taking the total number of sealed machines to 13, since its raids from Tuesday in the city.

One of the members of the team said, “Three machines were sealed at the Shraddha Maternity Home, Bhayander, which is owned by Dr. Rajesh Karodia.”

On the other hand Dr. Rajesh Karodia from Shraddha Nursing Home said that the allegations levied against the clinic are completely false.

The team also believes that these maternity homes are also conducting the sex-determination tests. Another key member points out that apart from the inappropriate documentation, one of the centre even don’t possess the appropriate registration.

“The centre did not renew its registration papers,” said the member. “It also did not have the PNDT Act book around and neither did it have proper records of patients.”

PNDT Act passed by the Indian Parliament came into force in 1994 for regulation and prevention of misuse of the diagnostic techniques.
