Situation in Iran may tarnish Gulf’s prospectus

Iran-MapAt a time when the Gulf region has been showing rapid signs of recovery leaving behind recessionary impacts, things are taking new shapes in Iran, currently autocratically ruled by the ayatollahs. The Gulf nations are concerned over their troubled neighborhood which can mitigate their chances to glitter further by achieving new trajectories of growth.

Iran is continuously facing large scale protests from its disillusioned populace against the incumbent government and the demonstrations are likely to pick further in future. Another threat to Gulf's stability comes from country's commitment to continue with its nuclear program, drawing flak from the international communities.

Further sanctions against Iran cannot be ruled out for its illicit nuclear program aggravated by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's move to build up Iran's nuclear capacity. Sanctions, if imposed, could be a jolt for Iran's economy besides increasing its international isolation.

Iran has also been blamed for its involvement in the anti-government riots which often take place in Bahrain's Shia slums.

Gulf nations have bravely weathered the impact of global slowdown but they should be ready to face and beat different sort of challenges for securing stability in the region.
