Sheila Dikshit opens new solar power facilityChief Minister Sheila Dikshit of Delhi has dedicated a new solar power generation facility to give a boost to solar power usage in the national capital.

Delhi's power distribution company BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) has installed solar panels at nine premises in the city with a combined capacity to generate 345 kilo watts. The total project cost for the new solar plant was Rs 3.6 crore, out of which about half was funded jointly by Delhi government and Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

"For our electricity needs, we have excessively used scarce natural resources like coal. We should not think only about ourselves. We should conserve these scarce natural resources for the next generation. Our country is endowed with abundant sun shine. For our electricity needs, we should look towards the sun," she said.

Dikshit praised the project of BYPL and said that her government has been encouraging initiatives in the renewable energy sector in the city. BYPL CEO Ramesh Narayanan expressed gratitude to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and the government of Delhi for support to the project. He also said that rooftop solar power installations will allow the authorities to reach renewable power obligation targets.
