After carrying out the survey, it has been found that 87.8% of participants have sexted in their lifetime. And, 75% of the participants have sexted while being in a committed relationship and 43% did while being in a casual relationship.
The researchers said that three quarters of the participants have event sent sexually suggestive images to their partner. They have claimed to have better relationship satisfaction. It is said that those engage in sexting are the one having fun and carefree nature.
Study researchers noted that sexting has potential positive effects as it encouraged open sexual communication with the partner, which increases intimacy and addresses communication problems. Sexting could prove beneficial in modern-day relationship.
Owing to the negative approach towards sexting that is often linked with risk-taking behaviors, like unprotected sex and drug use.
“This approach fails to account for the possible positive effects of open sexual communication with a partner. The research in this presentation explored the possibility that sexting may also be a protective factor by examining the relationship between sexting and relationship and sexual satisfaction”, said the researchers.
