Several airlines cancel flights to Heathrow

Flight-VolcanoThe chaos initiated by the volcanic ash clouding the Heathrow airport has persuaded airline companies including Indian Airlines, Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airlines to cancel their flights to Heathrow.

The decision may have left thousands of the passengers in a catch 22 situation but the security authorities at the airport say that the move was necessary for the safety of the passengers.

Moreover, Aviation safety authorities in Germany, France and Sweden also restricted the movement of aeroplanes after a cloud of black smoke entered into their territories making the air travel an unviable proposition.

Being the busiest airport in the world, the Heathrow Airport handles close to 1,300 flights per day. While the state-owned airline company has cancelled almost a dozen flights and has also rescheduled some of them, companies like Naresh Goyal's Jet Airways has cancelled all its flights to regions like London, Brussels, Newark, New York and Toronto. The airlines have said in a statement that it will start operations in London and Brussels once the Airports in the respective regions are reopened.

Moreover, several foreign carriers like Lufthansa and Virgin have also cancelled their flights moving into such regions from the Indian turf.
