Sensex Surged 86.01 Pts; Nifty At 6,077.40
Indian bourses continued its positive trend for the second day today.
At 10.20 a. m., the 30-share sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) gained 86.01 points (0.42%) to trade at 20,342.04 with 21 components in the green.
In the meantime, the broad-based Nifty remained up by 17.05 points (0.28%) to trade at 6,077.40 with 30 components gaining.
Today, the BSE Sensex belled the day on a flat note with a gain of 18.09 points (0.09%) at 20,274.12, whereas the Nifty started with a gain of 2.00 points (0.03%) at 6,062.35.
The top gainers in the Sensex pack consisted of Tata Motors, which gained 1.23%, Maruti Suzuki India surged 1.20%, Tata Power zoomed 1.07%, Wipro advanced 1.01%, HUL climbed 1.00% and BHEL remained up by 0.94%.
On the other hand, the major losers in the list comprised ONGC, which fell 0.95%, HDFC Bank slipped 0.69%, DLF Ltd dropped 0.54%, Sterlite Industries declined 0.51%, Bharti Airtel lost 0.25%, and RComm remained down by 0.22%.
The BSE Midcap index zoomed 0.96%. In contrast, the smallcap index remained up by 1.82%.
Among sectoral indices, the FMCG index gained 101.86 points (2.85%); the Consumer Durables index was up by 168.48 points (2.75%); and the Metal index surged 304.89 points (1.79%).
However, the Oil & Gas index remained down by 50.48 points (-0.48%).
The overall breadth of the stock market was optimistic as it witnessed 1,260 progressions as against 824 declinations.
