Scott Kelly Reaches Midway of His Yearlong Mission aboard ISS

Scott Kelly and Mikhail Kornienko, the One-Year Crew members, recently completed their half-way point of their 342-day mission. Both the astronauts are scheduled to land back on earth on March 3, 2016.

Kelly said, “It’s a big milestone, but I’m not going to start counting days. I think I’m going to wait until March, and then I’m going to allow myself to count how many days I have remaining. I’m counting up for time being”.

As per records, Kelly passed the 171-day mark on Tuesday and he has to still for another 171 days on the space station. The one-year-long stay at ISS will break NASA’s current record of seven months for a single spaceflight.

Russia, on the other hand, is still holding the top rank in the world with a record of 14 continuous month stay in space.

To mark this occasion, Kelly had chat with two cast members from the upcoming movie, ‘The Martian’. The actors of the movie spent the day touring Johnson Space Center in Houston.

Kelly received a ‘Happy Half Day’ greetings from his girlfriend, a public affairs employee at Johnson. Kelly told the movie stars, Sebastian Stan and Mackenzie Davis, that if he could do or have anything he would choose the ability to leave from his current place.

He said something people do not recognize is that being in space is probably very much like being in some kind of confinement. He said he is not claustrophobic at all, but he wants to put his feet in the grass and feel the wind on his face.
