RWE and EON to build nuclear power plant at AngleseyGerman utility companies RWE and EON are planning to build a nuclear power station at Anglesey, in Wales, by 2020. Horizon Nuclear Power, the joint venture between the two companies, is expected to announce formally regarding the nuclear project. RWE and EON, the two of biggest energy providers in the UK, are also planning to build a second plant in Gloucestershire by 2025.

According to sources close the joint venture, 232 hectare plot at Wylfa on the north coast of Anglesey has been chosen as the front runner for the proposed nuclear plant.

The land at Wylfa was acquired by Horizon from the Nuclear Decommission Authority in May 2008.

Horizon is expected to invest a total of £15 billion on both the plants, while the expected cost of the Anglesey plant is £7.5 billion. EON and RWE already have 20 nuclear power stations together worldwide.

The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) in UK is reportedly conducting a 15 week consultation about the proposals from Horizon.
