Rushmi clinches ITF Futures title
Rushmi Chakravarthi has won the women’s singles title of the US $10,000 International Tennis Federation (ITF) Futures tournament after ousting Sanaa Bhambri in the straight sets at the DLTA complex, New Delhi on Saturday.
The eighth seeded Rushmi clocked just one hour to beat the seventh seeded Sanna 6-3 6-1 in the title clash. Rushmi, Indian Oil Officer, was out of the action for last few months due to a knee injury but her performance hardly looked effected by this incidence.
Rushmi broke Sanaa’s serve in the very first game but she lost the advantage after Sanna broke her serve in the fourth game. Rushmi broke Sanna once more in the ninth game to win the first set. The second set was just a cake-walk for Rushmi as she raced away with set and match.
Rushmi had met Sanna only once in title round in the past in Ahmedabad in November 2006 where she lost to Sanna. Rushmi had won the last ITF title in June 2008 after defeating Sanaa's elder sister Ankita in Gurgaon.
