Rise in Nation’s Minority Population: US Census Bureau’s Latest Report
A new Census Bureau report has unveiled that the baby-boom generation is getting older and is paving way to millennials in America. In the nation, younger generation has also become diverse. Even, the minority population has increased.
As per the report, the country is closer to the point where minorities’ number will be more than whites. The Census report unveiled that the nation’s minority population has increased from 32.9% of US residents in 2004 to 37.9% in 2014.
Hawaii, California, New Mexico and Texas and Washington DC are the places, where minority population is present in great number. “The white population is considerably older than any other part of the population. This means it has higher mortality. Fewer women are in their prime child-bearing years”, said the report makers.
Last year, 95% of the nation’s population gain came from minorities. By the mid 2040s, the US will be majority-minority for the first time. As mentioned above, millennials have surpassed Baby boomers and are considered to be most diverse generation in history.
The report unveiled that more than 50% of all Americans aged five years or younger are non-white. When it comes to the largest group of American children under 5 years old then racial and ethnic minorities have crossed non-Hispanic whites. The demographic rise of minorities has come at a time when racial tensions are increasing and this could prove taxing for the US economy.
