RIM releases beta version of Twitter for BlackBerry 1.1
Canada based Research In Motion (RIM) has released a beta version of Twitter for BlackBerry 1.1. This contains several new features like geotagging, better integration with social feeds. Other features that are included are easy-operation and new gesture support. Announced on Feb. 22, Twitter for BlackBerry also features geotagging.
With geotagging, users can pinpoint their locations in their tweets. This feature is already there in other smartphones. Another major change BlackBerry introduced is support for new languages , Polish and Czech. It now comes with a cleaner interface. RIM official said that BlackBerry users love to tweet and popularity of Twitter on BlackBerry smartphones is clear from the fact that this app has been downloaded 10 million times, according to a BlackBerry official.
Another major feature added to new version 1.1 is the support for a quick reply to @mentions. Users are alerted with push notifications to the ribbon when they get @mentions, so that they can quickly reply to that. It also has a deep integration with Social Feeds. That means users can perform desired actions directly from the Social Feeds without launching the full app. Another major feature included is the notification of retweets. It also has a hash tag suggestion feature. When user adds a # to add a topic, previous topics used by users are suggested. Direct messages will now be in threaded form, same in the style of BlackBerry Messenger conversations.
An added feature in the message zone is all related direct messages are grouped together making message box less spammy. Touch screen users can refresh pages using gesture support. This can be done by simply dragging a finger down the device screen and releasing it.
Beta version of Twitter for BlackBerry smartphones is available on BlackBerry website's Beta Zone. It is supported only on BlackBerry Device Software 4.5 or higher.
