  Scientists find Antarctic worm that survives cold with an antifreeze system  Washington, Feb 10 : Two researchers have reported the sighting of a worm in Antarctica that withstands its cold climate by cranking out antifreeze and can even go into suspended animation when it runs out of water.

The researchers, from Brigham Young University, in US, Byron Adams, associate professor of molecular biology, and his Ph. D. student Bishwo Adhikari.

Finding new mammal species not a cause for joy, but a warning for humanity

Washington, Feb 10 : A scientist has said the fact that we're discovering new mammal species in an era of human-caused mass extinctions, is not a cause for joy, but only a warning for humanity.

The statement has been made by Paul Ehrlich, the Bing Professor of Population Studies at Stanford University, and co-author of an analysis of the 408 new mammalian species discovered since 1993.

Ehrlich conducted the analysis with Gerardo Ceballos, a professor of biology at the National University of Mexico.

The 408 newly discovered species amount to approximately 10 percent of the known species of mammals.

Washington, Feb 10: Through their Peapod Foundation, Black Eyed Peas have collaborated with Adobe Foundation and the Entertainment Industry Foundation to launch an academy for underprivileged children.

The institution gives underprivileged Californian kids the chance to get involved in film and music programmes.

The initiative will allow kids to interact with their community through music, dance, video and art.
