Kirk Douglas honoured for his humanitarian work

London, Oct 25 : American actor Kirk Douglas was honoured by a host of stars at a dinner in Los Angeles for his humanitarian work.

Present at the Shoah Foundation''s Ambassadors for Humanity dinner was director Steven Spielberg, who established the foundation in 1994 to collect and preserve stories from Holocaust survivors, and who also praised the 91-year-old actor saying he had “saved many lives”.

Douglas and wife have over the past decade funded the construction of 400 playgrounds in LA''s schools.

“Kirk Douglas, in a way, has saved many lives - not just through his art, but through his humanitarian contributions to the planet,” the BBC quoted Spielberg as saying.

Broomsticks and devil's forks deemed hazardous for Brit kids’ health!

London, Oct 25 : British nursery Langham Pre-School, near Colchester, Essex, has banned kids from bringing in broomsticks and pitchforks or other such objects during Hallowe''en.

Due to health and safety fears, the pre-school’s committee decided upon the ban, especially after a child was hurt last year.

However, it did not sit well with the parents, who have criticised it as health and safety gone too far.

Sally Cowley, a 39-year-old mother-of-two who runs the nearby Boxted mother and toddler group, finds the decision sad.

“I think it''s sad it has come to this. It''s the same as banning conkers,” the Telegraph quoted her as saying.

London, Oct 25 : Once touted as the Prince''s new Poundbury, Prince Charles’ dream "Urban Village in St Austell" has now turned into a living hell for residents annoyed by drunk teenagers.

Urban Village, envisioned and partially designed by Prince Charles, was designed to be Britain''s first village in a town setting.

The 147-property village boasts its faux Victorian houses, man-made pond, and stream.

It promised streets "designed for people rather than cars", and homeowners were encouraged to start their own cottage businesses and create a real community, which was quickly nicknamed "Charlietown Two".

WAGS attacked by fur protestors at fashion show

Gerrard got the shock of her life when a campaigner dressed up as a bear and grabbed her as she made her way down the red carpet to the Grey Room in Liverpool.

Later, Coleen and her mum had to dodge a smack from a huge placard, as the Furfree Liverpool campaigners gave the girls a red card for shopping at the fur friendly store.

“It was crazy. The girls were really shaken when they got inside the venue,” the Mirror quoted a source, as saying.
