Now a ‘sat nag’ system that will inform drivers against bad driving

London, October 27: A backseat driver satellite navigation system that will inform drivers when they are rushing up, or are out of lanes, is being developed.

The Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) will not only be a tour guide recommending visit-worthy restaurants, but will also direct the driver to change the gear in appropriate time to maximise fuel economy.

It will flash a warning against danger of collision or possible damage to the vehicle, too, by providing a 3-D view of the route in front, and specifying details regarding gradients, obstacles and road width.

Arctic icecap is now even melting in winter

London, Oct 27 : A new research by British scientists has indicated that the Arctic icecap is now shrinking at record rates in the winter as well as summer, adding to evidence of disastrous melting near the North Pole.

According to a report in The Times, the research was undertaken by Dr Katharine Giles, who led the study and is based at the Centre for Polar Observation and Modelling at University College London (UCL).

Her team found that the widely reported summer shrinkage, which this year resulted in the opening of the Northwest Passage, is continuing in the winter months with the thickness of sea ice decreasing by a record 19 percent last winter.

Icelanders set up online petition over British bank action

Reykjavik/Stockholm - An online petition recently launched in Iceland protesting the British government's recent use of anti- terrorist legislation to freeze Icelandic bank assets had Sunday gathered over 50,000 names.

The website also features photos of Icelanders holding signs with texts like "I am not a terrorist Mr Brown" and "Gordon Darling We are not to blame," with references to British Minister Gordon Brown and British Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling.

The website, www.indefence.is, was set up to protest what was perceived as a "devastating attack" on Iceland after the British government earlier this month used legislation from 2001 to freeze assets in Icelandic banks.
