London, October 27 : British-Irish pop group ‘Girls Aloud’ have returned to claim their victory after four years, by topping the UK charts with their new single ‘The Promise’.

All the 18 singles of the girl group, which had triumphed at the ITV1 talent competition ‘Popstars: The Rivals’, have made it to the UK Top 10.

The ‘Smash Hits’ poll winners, who have had two other crowning singles, including their 2002 debut, bagged the number one spot putting ‘Pink’s ‘So What’ in second place.

London, Oct 27: A new study by researchers at Cambridge University in the UK is trying to change the traditional view of Vikings as “illiterate warring thugs”, and recast them as “new men” with an interest in grooming, fashion and poetry.

According to a report in the Telegraph, academics claim that the old stereotype is damaging, and want teenagers to be more appreciative of the Vikings’ social and cultural impact on Britain.

They said that the Norse explorers, far from being obsessed with fighting and drinking, were a largely-peaceful race who were even criticized for being too hygienic.

London, October 27 : The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has been caught in the middle of a race row following claims that talented Black celebrities are being booted off the show ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, while white stars stay in.

Official website of the BBC has been swamped with hundreds of complaints since last weekend’s “unfair” dance-off between the 2008 show’s only two black contestants.

The uproar came after Rising Damp star Don Warrington and M People singer Heather Small were announced to be bottom in the public vote last Sunday, despite performing better than three white celebrities.

Angry stars have even demanded a probe into the alleged racist voting patterns on the series dubbed Middle England’s favourite.

London, October 27: A Ford Thunderbird formerly owned by John Travolta is expected to fetch 30,000 pounds when it goes under the hammer on October 29.

The two-time Academy Award winner’s 1955 model will be among other vintage cars that are likely to gather up to 3.5 million pounds, when they will be auctioned in conjunction with Sotheby’s at Battersea Evolution event arena.

The super car collection will feature a 1963 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spyder used in the movie ‘Charlie’s Angles: Full Throttle’ along with a 1938 Horch 853 Special Roadster and a 1997 McLaren F1.

London - Britain's leading Financial Times newspaper Monday threw its weight behind US presidential candidate Barack Obama, saying the campaign had shown that the Democrat was the "right choice" to lead the US.

"At the outset, we were not so confident. Mr Obama is inexperienced. His policies are a blend of good, not so good and downright bad," said the newspaper.

But the public had "learned a lot" about Obama and the Republican cndidate, John McCain.
