Meet the cat born without eyelidsLondon, Nov 27 : A three-month-old tabby cat named Danny has been born without any eyelids.

The cat suffers from a rare condition, and is currently living in agony hair and other dust particles collect over his underdeveloped eyes.

The feline, who was rescued from Ireland, requires an expensive and pioneering surgery that will attempt to graft new-eyelids onto his tiny frame.

The total projected cost of care is set at 3000 pounds, and his owners Josef and Victoria Stantejsky are finding it hard to collect the estimated amount.

International leaders condemn Mumbai terror strikes -- Update

Washington/London/Moscow/Chicago, Nov. 27: There has been widespread international condemnation of the series of shootings across Mumbai in which at least
80 people have been killed and many more injured. Following are some of the statements issued by heads of state, government and leaders, as reported by the BBC.

"These outrageous attacks in Mumbai will be met with a vigorous response. I have sent a message to [Indian] Prime Minister [Manmohan] Singh that the UK stands solidly with his government as they respond, and to offer all necessary help. Urgent action is underway to offer every possible protection to British citizens in the region," said British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

‘Actor robots’ make theatrical debut in Japan

London, Nov 27 : You must have heard about dancing robots, house-sitting robots, but now a new breed of robots is taking the world by storm – give it up for— acting robots!

The new species of robots is making its big debut on the Japanese stage.

The play, titled Hataraku Watashi (I, Worker), which had its premiere at Osaka University, is one of Japan''s first robot-human theatre productions.

The robots are specially programmed to speak lines with human actors and move around the stage with them.

According to playwright Oriza Hirata says the work, set in the near future, has raised questions about the relationship between humanity and technology.

London - Seven British citizens have been injured in the attacks in Mumbai, Britain's High Commissioner in India said Thursday.

Woolworth chain in Britain has filed for administration

London  - The Woolworth retail chain in Britain, which has had a presence on the High Street for nearly 100 years, has gone into administration, the BBC reported Wednesday.

The company, which employs more than 25,000 staff in 815 outlets across Britain, had struggled under the weight of debt of 385 million pounds (577 million dollars), the report said.

It reported half-yearly losses of nearly 100 million pounds in early September.

Last-minute talks to find a buyer had failed Wednesday, when Woolworth shares were suspended on the London Stock Exchange.

According to the BBC report, finance consultancy Deloitte will be called in as administrators of the store chain.

Author Rachel Johnson bags ‘Bad Sex in Fiction’ award

Rachel JohnsonLondon, Nov 26 : Author Rachel Johnson, sister of London Mayor Boris Johnson, has bagged this year''s Bad Sex in Fiction Award.

Johnson received the award in the ceremony, held at London''s In and Out club, for an excerpt from her satirical novel Shire Hell.

Pulitzer Prize-winning author John Updike won the lifetime achievement award at the ceremony, laid on by Literary Review Magazine.

The ceremony celebrates crude, tasteless or ridiculous sexual passages in modern literature.
