Islamabad, Feb. 7 : Javed Miandad may come back into the Pakistan Cricket Board fold, as the officials who were involved in conspiring against him have softened their stand.
The News quoted PCB sources as saying that some of the officials who had plotted a move against the former captain were now losing ground and PCB chairman Ijaz Butt, who had always supported Miandad, now wants to take him back in the fold.
"Miandad is expected to get a call from the PCB headquarters within the next couple of days and a possible meeting is on the cards between the chairman and the batsman," the PCB source said.
Karachi, Feb. 7 : Prolific Pakistan batsman Mohammad Yousuf has negated reports about a conflict with the former captain Shoaib Malik, The News reports.
Talking to reporters here, Yousuf, who had sided with the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL) and subsequently banned by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to play for Pakistan's national cricket team, said that he had no personal grudge against Malik.
Karachi, Feb. 7 : Pakistan's cricket coach Intikhab Alam has warned his players against any complacency during the forthcoming Test series with Sri Lanka, that might creep- up due to the islander team's drubbing by India in the on-going ODI series.
Alam said that Test matches are different from one day games, and Sri Lanka was capable of turning it around with several world-class players in their squad.
"Test cricket is a different ball game altogether. You can't predict the performance of a side in Test matches on the basis of its one-day showing, at least not Sri Lanka," The News quoted Alam, as saying.
Peshawar, Feb. 6 : US military equipment including Night-Vision Gear, high-power binoculars, boots and camouflage are openly being sold in Pakistan's border town, Peshawar, posing a risk of making the Taliban even more dangerous.
CBS News reported that US weapons on sale in Peshawar could improve Taliban capabilities and pose a great risk to NATO forces.
"This is state-of-the-art military equipment. If you''re going to fight a war these days, you''re much better off fighting at night. If you''ve got the equipment, sniper scopes and night-vision equipment, you can put the enemy off balance," said defense analyst Paul Beaver.
Islamabad - Unknown gunmen killed six police officers and two civilians in a raid on a police check point in Pakistan's central province of Punjab on Saturday, a security official said.
The attack took place around 3:30 am (2230 GMT Friday) in the Qudrat Abad area of Mianwali district, said local police chief Malik Tassadaq Hayat.
According to Hayat the attackers first gunned down two volunteers from Civil Defence guarding the post and later blew up check post building with explosive material. As a result six policemen sleeping in the post were buried under the debris and died.
Islamabad - Taliban militants in troubled north-western Pakistan claimed Saturday that a Polish electrician held by them for the last 18 weeks has been killed.
A Taliban spokesman who identified himself as Mohammad, told various media organizations over the phone that Peter Stanczak was executed after the expiry of a February 6 deadline given to Pakistani and Polish governments to fulfil the militants' demands.
Both government did not seem interested in the release of the captive, added Mohammad, who represents the Taliban in the country's tribal district of Darra Adam Khel.
