Pak Government may file appeal against Dr Khan’s releaseIslamabad, Feb 9: The Pakistan Government is considering filing an appeal against Islamabad High Court's verdict declaring disgraced nuclear scientist Dr A. Q. Khan a `free citizen'.

Government sources said on Sunday that the court decision might be challenged because of concerns expressed by the United States and the United Kingdom over the `release' of Dr Khan.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the government reserved the right to file an appeal against the court's decision, the Dawn reported.

Pak Taliban releases video of Polish engineer’s beheadingPeshawar, Feb 9: Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan has released a videotape showing the beheading of Polish geologist Poitr Stancza, and warned other kidnapped foreigners would meet the same fate if their demands were not met.

Before Stancza was killed, the seven-minute video shows the blindfolded geologist making an appeal to the Polish Government to not send troops to Afghanistan.

He asked the Polish Government to sever diplomatic relations with Pakistan if it did not try to seek his release.

Pak most urgent foreign policy challenge for ObamaWashington, Feb 9: Pakistan is the most urgent foreign policy challenge for the Obama Administration, according to a study carried out by the US Central Command.

The Centcom, which is directly responsible for all American military activities in the Afghan-Pakistan region, is expected to submit the report to President Barack Obama in a few days.

The Obama Administration is conducting a high-level strategic review of the war in Afghanistan, and says it will unveil the results before NATO holds a 60th anniversary summit in early April, The Dawn reported.

Mukherjee asks Pakistan to act against terrorism

New Delhi, Feb 8 : Addressing a Congress party summit here on Sunday, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee cautioned the Pakistan Government to punish the terrorists involved in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

''''''''Nobody should think that the great country is helpless to deal with the situation. We repeat that all options are still open before us,'''''''' Mukherjee said.

Referring to the promises by the Pakistan Government to bring the perpetrators of the Mumbai attacks to justice, Mukherjee warned the neighboring country not to divert from its commitment on this grave issue.

He clarified that the fight against terrorism was not against any religion.

Abducted Pole in Pakistan "killed", Polish minister admits

Munich  - A Polish engineer kidnapped by Taliban militants in Pakistan has been killed, Poland's foreign minister said at a security conference in Munich on Sunday, citing "reliable but unconfirmed" reports.

The group in north west Pakistan holding Peter Stanczak for the past 18 weeks had claimed via a spokesman late Saturday to have executed their hostage, but there had been no official confirmation.

Speaking to the Polish news agency PAP at the conference in Germany on Sunday, Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski said: "The Polish geologist working for the development of Pakistan was killed only yesterday."

Sikorksi said Stanczak had been killed according to reliable but unconfirmed reports, PAP reported.

Holbrooke to arrive in Islamabad on Monday

Holbrooke to arrive in Islamabad on MondayIslamabad, Feb. 8 : United States Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Richard Holbrooke, will be arriving here on Monday on his maiden visit after being appointed Barack Obama's special envoy to the region.

During his four day mission, Holbrooke is expected to meet President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani and other top leaders.

Holbrooke's visit is being considered important as it might influence a change in Washington's strategies with regard to Afghanistan and Pakistan.
