London, January 2 : A pub chain has bucked the credit crunch by reducing the price of a pint of beer to just 99p, a move that will give thirsty Brits their cheapest beer for
19 years.
Bosses at JD Wetherspoon say that the offer will run "indefinitely" at their 713 UK pubs.
They have revealed that some bottled ales and lagers, wines, and spirits will also be sold at cheaper rates.
According to them, a number of meals will be offered for just 2.99 pounds.
The pub chain's move comes as the Government is making efforts to stop binge-drinking fuelled by "happy hours" and cheap booze deals.

London, Jan 2: A man dressed as Norse god `Thor' for a New Year party scared off a burglar who was trying to break-in his house.
Torvald Alexander, 38, a construction firm manager, was returning home wearing a red cape and the thunder god''s silver-winged helmet when he caught the burglar red handed during the break in.
He said the burglar threw himself out of a first floor window after seeing him.
"As soon as he saw me his eyes went wide with terror," the Telegraph quoted him as saying.
"He looked like he had had a few drinks and decided to do a late night break in, but he hadn''t counted on the God of Thunder living here," he added.
London, January 2: A Brit man has been banned from carrying spray paint and felt tip pens after writing abusive comments in public about women, according to the police.
David Jell was also disallowed from showing offensive remarks or nicknames of any person publicly.
Kent Police revealed that Jell used to pen insulting comments in public lavatories "about women he randomly took a dislike to", reports the Telegraph.
It was further revealed that the of Queens Road, Hawkhurst resident "also drew the attention of his victims to rude or distressing words or images he wrote on his newspaper as he travelled on the bus."

Dr Harold Carr, 89, left the regular storage to his nephew and niece concealing the 1937 Bugatti Type 57S Atalante - one of the only 17 made in the world.

Kabul - A NATO-led British soldier was killed in an explosion in southern Afghanistan, marking the first loss of the new year for the international forces in the war-ravaged country, officials said Friday.
The soldier was killed in a roadside bomb attack in Sangin district of the southern province of Helmand on Thursday, New Year's Day, a NATO spokesman in Afghanistan said.
