UK Govt. plans to extend powers to spy on PCs

London, Jan. 5: British citizens will soon have to subject their personal computers for a police check under new plans on electronic surveillance formulated by the European Union.

According to a report in The Telegraph, police will not need a warrant to bug computers in homes and offices in order to monitor website use and e-mail traffic.

The British Home Office is backing these surveillance-related proposals introduced by the EU Council of Ministers.

It would allow other European nations to request surveillance by British police.

Civil liberty groups have expressed concern over this development.

London, Jan 5: A fancy dress shop owner has accused reality TV star Jade Goody of not returning a Marilyn Monroe-style frock she hired over two-and-a-half years ago.

The former Big Brother star, currently struggling from cervical cancer, reportedly hired the white dress back in April 2006, along with an Indiana Jones outfit for boyfriend Jack Tweed for 20 pounds.

Kathy Coombes, owner of Aladdin's Party Centre, in Rayleigh, Essex, said that Goody told her the costume was `at the bottom of my wardrobe' but still never returned it.

"I reported it to the police and urged them to take action against Jade. But they said it was a civil matter," the Mirror quoted Kathy, as saying.
