Nepal parties differ on finalising Constituent Assembly regulations

NepalKathmandu, Sept 16 : Differences among the parties have created snags in finalising the Constituent Assembly Regulations leading to delay in constitution making process in Nepal.

There has been differences on the number of members in the constitution drafting committee for which the major parties including the Maoists, the Nepali Congress and the UML suggest a 15 member team while fringe parties demand 25 members to ensure representation for all parties in the constituent assembly.

Communists believe that their brave new world is being debased by such activities, which they describe as tawdry and bourgeois.

Organizers of the Miss Nepal competition here have had to cancel their show after the Maoists simply made it impossible for them to go ahead with it.

From the moment the Maoists secured a surprise victory in the April''s elections, the organizers of the competition have been in trouble, with their traditional venue being used as a temporary home for the country''s new parliament.

Nepal opposition parties slam Government policies

Kathmandu, Sept 13: Nepal’s Constituent Assembly (CA) members criticised the programmes and policies of the government during the debate of the first day’s session on Friday.

Speaking at the Constituent Assembly meeting, Nepali Congress Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel said the government's programmes were unduly projecting long-term visions even though the current government is entrusted only for providing relief package to flood hit people, completing peace process and making a new Constitution for the republic of Nepal.

He said the current coalition government intended to put parliamentary system in danger and establish totalitarianism citing absence of words like parliamentary democracy and multi-party system in the programmes.

Nepal government asked to prosecute human rights violators

India Nepal BoarderKathmandu  - International human rights organisations have asked the new Nepalese government to prosecute those responsible for enforced disappearances, extra-judicial killings and torture during Nepal's decade-long Maoist insurgency.

The United States based Human Rights Watch and Nepal-based Advocacy Forum in a joint report, Waiting for Justice: Unpunished Crimes from Nepal's Armed Conflict, said not a single person had been prosecuted so far for crimes during the insurgency.

UML General Secretary Jhala Nath Khanal said that a new agreement should be reached on an qual footing based on the principle of mutual benefit.

"The government of India should pay annual royalty to Nepal government for using the bridge built on Nepali territory, for making use of water from Nepal, and for using Nepali land, he said.

Report: Nepal to deport illegal Tibetan exiles

Nepal to deport illegal Tibetan exiles Kathmandu - Nepal's Maoist-led government has threatened deportation of Tibetan exiles staying in the country illegally, a media report said Thursday.

The government said it would investigate the status of Tibetans involved in anti-China protests and deport them if they were staying in the country illegally, Kantipur newspaper reported.

Police and the immigration department began investigating their status following a directive from Home Minister Bam Dev Gautam to stop activities by the Tibetan refugees, the newspaper said.
