India, Pakistan firing on Kashmir border ends; soldier's body found

SrinagarJammu and Kashmir, Kashmir - Fierce clashes between Indian and Pakistani troops along the volatile Kashmir border stopped Tuesday and the body of an Indian soldier killed in the violence was recovered, Indian officials said.

The firing began on late Monday afternoon after 12 Pakistani soldiers crossed the Line of Control (LoC) dividing the disputed region and shot dead an Indian soldier in the Nowgam sector.

India, Pakistan to convene flag meet at LoC

Jammu, JuJammu and Kashmirly 29: India has sought a flag meeting with Pakistan a day after skirmishes at the Line of Control dividing the two countries resulted in the reported deaths of one Indian soldier and four Pakistani soldiers.

Islamabad is yet to agree to participate in the flag meeting in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara-Nowgam Sector.

Monday’s skirmish is the sixth ceasefire violation that has taken place at the LoC in the past three weeks after Islamabad gave an assurance that it was committed to maintaining the ceasefire.

Agitation over shrine land row continues in Jammu despite curfew

Jammu & KashmirJammu, July 28 : Despite curfew, people in Jammu continued to protest against the cancellation of land allotted to Amarnath shrine board in Kashmir on the fourth consecutive day.

Irate protesters on Monday pelted stones and burnt a police vehicle demanding the recall of the state Governor who assumed office recently and transfer of forestland to Amarnath shrine trust in the Muslim-majority part of Kashmir.

The agitation is being spearheaded by Shri Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti and is supported by about 30 organisations in the region.

30 injured in protests over Hindu shrine land in Indian Kashmir

Jammu & KashmirSrinagar, Kashmir - At least 30 people were injured in India-administered Kashmir's summer capital of Jammu on Saturday when Hindu protestors clashed with police to protest the cancellation of transfer of land for a popular Hindu pilgrimage.

Jammu, a Hindu majority region in the mostly Muslim state has been observing a shut-down since Thursday against the state government's revoking its earlier order of transferring 40 hectares of forest land to a trust that organizes the annual pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave.

5 killed, 18 injured in Srinagar grenade attack

Srinagar, July 24 : At least five people were reportedly killed and 18 others injured in a grenade blast at Batmaloo bus stand here today.

According to official sources, some unidentified persons hurled a grenade on a Jammu-bound bus at the bus stand located in the periphery of Lal Chowk at around noon.

Meanwhile, a surrendered Hizbul Mujahideen militant Ghulam Hassan Wani and three of his family members were killed in a terror attack in Doda district.

According to police, militants opened fired on all four who were sleeping when they barged into his house in Marmath Badi village in the district early this morning.
