Second phase of polling underway in J-K

Srinagar, Nov 23 : Second phase of polling is going on in Jammu and Kashmir today. Six constituencies where the votes are being polled include Rajouri, Naushera, Darhal and Kalakot in Rajouri district and Ganderbal and Kangan in Ganderbal district.

Polling of votes has started at eight in the morning and will close at four in the afternoon. Tight security arrangements have been made at all polling stations.

The Election Commission has appointed 110 observers in Rajouri District to keep vigil on violence-prone sensitive stations.

Pakistan's Zardari says he favours a South Asia non-nuclear treaty

Asif Ali ZardariNew Delhi - Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari said Saturday that he did not subscribe to nuclear weapons and favoured a South Asia non-nuclear treaty.

Zardari was responding to a question via video-conferencing at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit in New Delhi.

Nuclear-capable neighbours India and Pakistan have fought three wars since their independence from British colonial rule in 1947, two of them over the disputed Kashmir region.

Kashmir has often been described as a nuclear flashpoint which needs resolution.

General Kapoor to leave for South Africa and Botswana on Sunday

India and South Africa have seen enhanced military cooperation especially during the past decade including the fields of military training and procurement of military hardware.

A total of 3.53 lakh electorates will be eligible to exercise their franchise for four constituencies including 1.82 lakh male and 1.70 lakh female.

Rajouri, Kalakote, Nowshera and Darhal voters will vote their representatives in November 23 voting.

With mikes down, the candidates can hold door to door canvassing in their last minute attempt to woo the electorates.
