Nuclear exporting nations voice concerns over India-US pact

Vienna - Diplomats from several nuclear-exporting countries were critical Wednesday of the US move to seek no additional conditions in international export guidelines for India to receive foreign nuclear supplies.

Under its 2005 nuclear deal with India, the United States pledged to seek changes in international export norms that currently forbid exports of nuclear technology or materials to countries like India, which has not signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Indian, Pak Gulf expats to mark independence days

India, Pakistan, UAEDubai, Aug. 13 : Pakistani and Indian communities in the UAE are gearing up to celebrate their 62nd independence days of their countries this week.

According to Gulf News, The Pakistani community will mark its Independence Day on August 14.

The main gathering will be held at the Pakistan Embassy in Abu Dhabi and its Consulate General in Dubai. Flag hoisting ceremonies will be held at the missions at 8a. m. The event is open to community members.

The highlight of this year''s Independence Day celebrations is a musical concert -- Jashn-e-Azadi Show -- which will be held at the Dubai Tennis Stadium on Thursday.

Six killed in Mumbai building collapse

India's Tata Group enters franchise agreement with Britain's Tesco

Tata & TescoNew Delhi - India's Tata Group's retail arm Trent announced Tuesday it was entering into a franchise agreement with British retailer Tesco to expand its hypermarket business in India.

The franchise agreement with Tesco would allow Trent to access the former's extensive retail expertise and technical capability to expand its Indian hypermarket business which operates under the name of Star Bazaar, a company press release said.

There are currently four Star Bazaar outlets, two in Mumbai and one each in Ahmedabad and Bangalore. Trent plans to expand this to 50 stores across Indian by 2013.
