Children's film festival in Kashmir Srinagar, Mar 30 : A four-day long children's film festival opened in Srinagar with the aim of helping children, particularly orphans, overcome their trauma.

The 'Shehjaar Children Theatre Festival 2009' is being jointly organised by the Help Foundation, a local NGO, and the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Trust.

Nighat Shafi, an organiser of the festival, said that its main aim was to lessen the stress of the local kids and help them smile for a while.

Rahul Gandhi to campaign in Bihar on Wednesday New Delhi, Mar 30 : Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi will start his party's campaign for the upcoming general elections from Bihar's Buxar District on Wednesday.

According to party sources, Rahul will address a public meeting in Buxar. From here, former Central Minister K K Tiwari is a candidate from Congress.

Later in second week of April, Congress president Sonia Gandhi will also begin her campaign for the party.

Indian authorities appoint lawyer for Mumbai terrorism suspectNew Delhi - India on Monday appointed a lawyer for the lone gunman captured during the Mumbai terrorist attacks that killed over 170 people in November, media reports said.

Judge ML Tahiliyani told Ajmal Amir Kasab via video conferencing in the high-security Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai that Anjali Waghmare, a lawyer from the state legal authority had been appointed to represent him, the PTI news agency reported.

Another lawyer would be appointed to assist Waghmare, the report said.

India condemns terrorist attack in PakistanNew Delhi - India on Monday condemned the terrorist attack near the Pakistani city of Lahore even as its defence forces said they were prepared to tackle any "spillover" of the terrorist threat, since the assault took place near the border.

"We do not have full information. We are deeply concerned. We condemn the terrorist attacks," India's Federal Home Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram told reporters in New Delhi.

"We condemn all terrorist attacks. We offer our sympathy to the the people of Pakistan," he said.

Indian equity markets slump over 3 per cent

Indian equity markets slump over 3 per centNew Delhi  - Indian stock markets slipped into the red in morning trade on Monday with the benchmark Sensex index trading about 3.5 per cent lower than its previous close.

The 30-share sensitive Sensex index of the Bombay Stock Exchange was trading at 9,698 points at 12:20 pm (0650 GMT) 350.49 points lower than its 10,048.49 point close on Friday.

The Sensex had gained 1,081.81 points or 12.06 per cent during a five-day long bull run last week.
