Pakistan funded Mujahideen in Kashmir says Obama

Barack ObamaNew York, July 28 : United States Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama has said that Pakistan in some cases funded the Mujahideen in Kashmir.

He said this in an interview to the Wall Street Journal published in New York on Monday.

Obama said that such efforts are counterproductive for Islamabad.

He further added that Pakistan''s help to Mujahideen continues to be a constant instigator of tension between Islamabad and New Delhi.

PM, Sonia visit bomb blast sites, survivors in Ahmedabad (Update)

Manmohan SinghAhmedabad, July 28: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday commended the people of Gujarat for the resilience shown by them in the wake of terror attacks on Saturday’s serial bomb blast.

The Prime Minister said this during his day-long visit to Ahmedabad.

"I commend the people of Gujarat for the resilience they have shown. These terrorist acts are aimed at destroying our social fabric, undermining communal harmony and demoralising our people," he said.

Singh also announced enhancement of ex-gratia payment from Rs one lakh to Rs 3.5 lakh each to next of kin of those killed in the terror attacks.

Wrong Injection Takes Two Lives In Kolkata

It was sheer negligence of a nurse and a doctor in a nursing home in Hooghly that took lives of two women. These women died after a wrong injection given by nurse on the prescription of the doctor. Police has arrested the doctor and the nurse.

Agitation over shrine land row continues in Jammu despite curfew

Jammu & KashmirJammu, July 28 : Despite curfew, people in Jammu continued to protest against the cancellation of land allotted to Amarnath shrine board in Kashmir on the fourth consecutive day.

Irate protesters on Monday pelted stones and burnt a police vehicle demanding the recall of the state Governor who assumed office recently and transfer of forestland to Amarnath shrine trust in the Muslim-majority part of Kashmir.

The agitation is being spearheaded by Shri Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti and is supported by about 30 organisations in the region.

Seven Manipuri militants behind child kidnapping nabbed

ManipurNew Delhi, July 28 : The Army today nabbed seven militants involved in abduction of children near Imphal.

In last 48 hours, the security forces have nabbed seven militants belonging to different outfits who were involved in the child abduction for recruitment in terrorist’s outfits.

Out of the seven militants apprehended, four militants belong to United National Liberation Front (UNLF), and two belong to PREPAK (GS). Identification of one militant is being ascertained.

VHP rejects Government’s claim that Lord Rama destroyed Ram SethuCoimbatore, July 28 : The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has rubbished the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government’s assertion before the Supreme Court that the Ram Sethu or Adam’s bridge had been destroyed by Lord Ram himself.

The VHP’s International President Ashok Singhal told media persons, the fact that Lord Ram destroyed the bridge is not mentioned anywhere in the Kamba Ramayan.
