Pius Society chief demands Williamson retraction on Holocaust

Hamburg  - The superior of an ultra-conservative group which is being re-admitted to the Catholic Church said in an interview Tuesday that he has told one his bishops, Richard Williamson, to "correct" his denial of the Holocaust.

"He should study the historical facts quickly and correct his false statements. The sooner the better," said Bernard Fellay.

The interview was reported by the German news website Spiegel Online, which said it received written replies to questions posed by telephone. Fellay heads the Society of Saint Pius X, a group opposed to modern Catholic theology.

Doping fears rise ahead of biathlon worlds Hamburg - With just days to go until the start of the biathlon world championships in South Korea, it remains unclear how many skiers have failed dope tests.

"We have positive A-samples," Anders Besseberg, president of the International Biathlon Union (IBU), told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa Monday.

Besseberg dismissed earlier media reports that up to eight biathletes have failed dope tests, saying that the IBU had "never made public" the number of A-samples that had returned positive.

"We don't have eight positive A-samples," he added.

Austrian ski federation to take legal action over doping claims

OeSV LogoHamburg - The Austrian ski federation (OeSV) announced Monday that it is to take legal action against L'Equipe after the French sports newspaper published an article claiming an Austrian biathlete was one of five skiers who had failed a dope test.

"The OeSV biathletes have undergone doping controls several times in recent weeks and following discussions with the national anti- doping agency (NADA) and the IBU
(International Biathlon Union) there are absolutely no complaints," said OeSV sporting director Markus Gandler in a statement.

Williams tops women's tennis rankings

Serena WilliamsHamburg - American Serena Williams remains top of a virtually unchanged women's tennis rankings issued Monday by the WTA ruling body.

Williams, who beat Dinara Safina in the final of the Australian Open on January 31 to take top spot, heads the rankings with 9,432 points followed by the Russian on 9,150 points.

Serbian Jelena Jankovic, who topped the rankings ahead of the Australian Open, remains third, with Russia's Elena Dementieva fourth.

The only change in the Top Ten sees Nadia Petrova of Russia leapfrog Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska into ninth place.
