Ahmedabad, Feb 14, : Scores of literary figures and other local residents in Ahmedabad on Saturday march a massive rally to mark their love and respect for their mother tongue Gujarati.

Many bigwigs from Gujarati literature took part in the rally hailed at the time of Valentine's Day.

Ahmedabad, Feb 13 : The police custody of Valsad Deputy Superintendent of Police K G Erda, who was arrested in connection with his role in the 2002 Gujarat riots, ends today.

On February 9, Erda was remanded in police custody till today.

Metropolitan Magistrate C. B Patel passed the order after a Special Investigating Team (SIT) submitted a report of its investigation.

Erda was an inspector at the Meghaninagar police station during the riots.

Surat, Feb 11 : A bridge connecting various industries in Surat was damaged after being hit accidentally by four ships on Wednesday.

The Magdalla-Hazira bridge on the Tapti river in the state bore the brunt of the collision after four ships of the AGB shipyard hit it.

No casualties were reported in the incident that took place at around 3:00 a. m.

The authorities have stopped the flow of traffic while the investigation is on.

Madhavpur (Gujarat), Feb 9 : The Indian Army, Navy and the Air Force today jointly conducted the largest ever amphibious exercise codenamed "EXERCISE TROPEX-2009" at Madhavpur beach in Gujarat.

The amphibious landing, the most complex of all military manoeuvres involving coordination and synergy from conceptualization to planning and final execution, was ably demonstrated on the shores of Madhavpur.

The element of Coast Guard was also a part of this short, swift and intense conflict.
