The actor had taken his daughter to a Mexican restaurant where the tot decided to spill both their meals on her dad's lap, prompting him to swear in German. Ben thought he'd avoided teaching her a bad word by cursing in a foreign language - only to watch Violet recite the phrase loudly to the horror of other diners.

Affleck tells contactmusic. com, "All the food is coming, spilling towards me. And I go, 'Shhhhh... and I turn it around and say 'sheisse'.

Washington  - A US immigration judge granted a stay Friday evening to John Demjanjuk, a war-crimes suspect from the Nazi era, who was to be deported to Germany Sunday.

Judge Wayne Iskra of the US Immigration Court in Arlington, Virginia, ordered the stay and decided to reopen deportation proceedings, broadcaster CNN reported, quoting Demjanjuk's US lawyer John Broadley.

Strasbourg, France/Baden-Baden, Germany  - Turkey vetoed Friday the appointment of Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen as the next NATO secretary general, souring the start of the alliance's 60th anniversary summit in France and Germany.

"We either have consensus or we don't ... and we have no consensus yet," said NATO spokesman James Appathurai when asked whether heads of state and government had reached a deal on the successor to the current chief, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer.

Baden-Baden, Germany  - NATO leaders meeting in the German resort of Baden-Baden failed to reach consensus late Friday on naming Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen as the next NATO secretary general, officials told dpa, the German news agency.

Turkish President Abdullah Gul resisted impassioned pleas by US President Barack Obama, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy to agree to have the 56-year-old Rasmussen succeed outgoing NATO head Jaap de Hoop Scheffer.

Baden-Baden, Germany - NATO leaders failed to agree on the appointment of Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen as the alliance's next secretary general during dinner talks in the German city of Baden-Baden, officials said Friday.

Rasmussen, 56, had been tipped as the frontrunner to replace the current NATO chief, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, when the Dutchman steps down at the end of July.

Bielefeld, Germany - Goals from Jefferson Farfan and Kevin Kuranyi gave Schalke 04 a 2-0 win at Arminia Bielefeld in their first match since the dismissal of coach Fred Rutten eight days ago.

Peru striker Farfan got on the end of a cross from Christian Pander to head Schalke ahead just before half-time, and Kuranyi notched the second three minutes into stoppage time.

The win was a boost for troubled Schalke who are now being coached by caretaker trainers Mike Buskens and Youri Mulder.
