Redcar’s Corus steel plant closed!
Corus, the steelmaker has decided to withdraw the process and shut down its operations of RedCar's blast furnace. The Corus steel plant was established way back 150 years, and now the closing down the furnace will cost at least 1600 jobs at one swipe. However the unions are preparing themselves to call for an industrial action.
The process of decommissioning will take approximately six months, to search for a potential buyer which can give a thought to restart the furnace with an expected amount of £50m.
This weekend the last liquid iron will be taken off from the blast furnace to close and initiate the decommissioning process at the Teesside Cast Products site.
The process of shutting down of the operations shall first rip off the job losses at the end of February, taking away a massive chunk of 300 posts. The leftover will manpower has to wait for another 3 months.
On the decision, the union leaders have given a thought to threaten and to cause maximum damage to the Corus.
According to the Community Union's biggest representative of Corus admitted that the industrial decision shall lead to destructive passage towards the Indian owners, Tata. As the decision of the owners, could take away 8,000 jobs, in the wider community.
For the cause, workers of Corus and their family members attended a rally for an emotional protest outside the site.
