RDA Strike Hit Medical Services At LNJP Hospital
Resident doctors at the government-run LNJP Hospital went on an indefinite strike on Monday night after the relatives of a 35-year-oldpatient who died at the hospital on Friday beat five physicians in the hospital premises.
The services at the hospital were badly hit as the strike entered its third day.
The doctors had called for a strike to protest against the alleged assaults by patient's relatives.
The Resident Doctors' Association (RDA) had been demanding proper security and better facilities within hospital premises.
In the meantime, resident doctors have underway an equivalent OPD inside the hospital to admit new patients.
The doctors said, “This parallel OPD has been set up with no help from the hospitals. We do not want the patient to suffer because of our ongoing strike. We are at loggerheads with the administration.”
Dr. Kuldeep Kumar, President Resident Doctors Association of the hospital said, “We were being beaten up because of poor facilities with the hospital. And we ought to get that from the administration.”
Casualty was close down and resident doctors kept away from OPDs. Till 12 PM only one patient was admitted in the hospital.
The doctors are pointing to the administration lacking adequate facilities, which according to them is the only reason of the incident and suffering of the patients. They are demanding better security and facility in the premises of the hospital.
Tuesday’s discussions failed as the administration is not ready to make immediate changes that doctors are demanding. However, the hospital superintendent Dr Swaraj Batra has again appealed the doctors to bring normalcy into the service.
In fact, the doctors said they are demanding better security at the hospital for long but the Delhi Government and the hospital authorities has done little.
A doctor said, “We have been facing the anger of patients due to lack of medical facilities, and poor working condition and we want the hospital to ensure adequate security and infrastructure, but the authority is yet to take any concrete move despite repeated demand.”
