Qantas aiming to start paying dividends againAviation major, Qantas has said that it is aiming to start paying dividends to its angry shareholders once again as it looks to turn around its international operations.

The airline reported its first net loss of A$ 244 million or $256million for the year till 30 June. The airline said that the net loss was mainly due to increased cost of costs and growing losses at its international operations.

The company reported a loss of A$ 450 million from its international operations. The global business is hit hard by a slowdown in demand as well as a falling market share in its key markets. The airline is trying to turnaround Qantas International and has already cancelled services in some of the loss making routes and streamlined maintenance procedures.

Qantas Chairman Leigh Clifford told shareholders at the company's annual general meeting is seriously looking to start paying dividends again. The company had previously paid dividend during the first half of 2008/09 at the rate of six cents per share. It had to suspend paying dividends since the global financial crisis made financial conditions difficult for the sirline.

"We will resume dividends at the earliest opportunity," he said.
