Pune Police All Set For The D-Day

With two days left for commencement of Commonwealth Youth Games Pune Police All Set For The D-Day(CYG), Pune Police is tightening up the security. The Police on Thursday announced certain conditions to enter the CYG zone. One will have to leave all gadgets behind even eatables while entering the arena. 

Commissioner of Police, Satyapal Singh at a Press Conference said, “People will not be allowed to bring cameras and mobile phones into the games venue. Even though the entire complex has a Wi-Fi connection for security reasons, only game officials, police personnel and the media personnel will be allowed to carry laptops to the venue.”  

The opening ceremony on October 12 will encounter around 17,000 people. President Pratibha Patil along with other national and international dignitaries will be present. Athletes from 71 countries will be welcomed with their coaches and trainers for the six-day event. Over 1,500 athletes are expected.

Commissioner at the press meet highlighted various stringent measures being taken. He assured that over 3000 police personnel will be on duty and teams of CRPF and SRPF will be there while co ordination with the army was also being sought out. CCTV cameras have been put up in most of the areas and emergency evacuation plans have also been made. He also said that, “Total of 10 Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) will be pressed into service apart from two reserve BDDS”. Adding on he told the media, that the people who are sick, can avail themselves, the services of a team of doctors present at the venue.

However the Police though ready and equipped was disappointed as the venue till now was not handed over to them. On this Lt Gen (retd) Ashok Kapur, additional director-general, CYG, said, "The venue could not be handed over to the police due to some pending works, which are now complete. The police can take over the security charge on Friday."
