Private islands selling for just £53,171
London, Jan 12 : Private islands, once seen as the privilege of the rich and famous, can now be attained by lesser privileged folks at just 53,171 pounds.
With the coming of the recession, the price on real estate has also come down, which is the case with Bumbo Island.
Described as "beautiful" in the prospectus, 2.7-acre Bumbo nestles in Inhabitants Bay, Cape Breton - about 1.7 miles from mainland Nova Scotia, Canada.
US company Private Islands Online, which recently slashed the price of a string of islands, describes it as "a great place for camping and fishing".
"Bumbo offers a gravel beach on one side for watercraft and a sand beach on the opposite side for tanning and relaxation," the Daily Star quoted the website as describing the island.
"Lastly, there is a clearing in the middle of the island if you decide to build a cottage there," it added.
Another island that is on sale is Barnard Island, half a mile off shore in the Tsala Apopka Lakes, is just an hour from Disneyworld Florida - and you can snap up its 5.2acres for just 55,700 pounds.
If you can afford to pay more, Bay Island on Lake Huron, Michigan, comes with its own two-bedroom pine cabin, shed with shower and boat dock - all for 193,500 pounds.
Its 1.75 acres enjoy "sweeping bay views" and are apparently perfectly located for fishing and sailing in summer and snow-mobiling and ice fishing in winter. (ANI)
