Police arrest SIMI activist in Madhya Pradesh

Madhya PradeshBhopal, Sept 20 : A Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) activist, who is suspected to be having links with Jaipur and Ahmedabad serial blasts, was held in Madhya Pradesh, police said on Saturday.

Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) DIG Pawan Srivastava told reporters here today that Mohammad Ali was arrested near Bhopal after intercepting a vehicle in which he was coming from Narsinghpur to the state capital on Friday in a joint operation named ‘Jimma’ by Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh police.

Earlier in the day, he was produced in a Bhopal court, which sent him to 10 days police custody.

Police also recovered some SIMI literature from him.

Following an information given by Shahbaz Hussain, who was arrested recently in connection with Jaipur and Ahmedabad serial blasts, Ali was held and being interrogated.

Ali is believed to have been generating finance for the state unit of the banned outfit.

Earlier, the Ujjain police had announced a reward of Rs 15,000 for information leading to the arrest of Ali, as he was wanted in many criminal cases in Jabalpur and Ujjain. (ANI)
