PMANE to stage protect in front of Kudankulam nuclear plant on Sunday
People's Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE) has announced that they would stage protest to besiege the Kudankulam nuclear plant on Sunday, and called upon the public, anti-nuclear activists as well as political parties to join their protest.
However, PMANE assured in clear words that their protest would be non-violent.
Continuing their gripe against the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP), PMANE coordinator S. P. Udayakumar said, "Ours is a non-violent protest. Though there is a prohibitory order against assembly of people near the plant we will gather and protest."
A massive posse of policemen has already been deployed in Kudankulam and its surrounding places to prevent any attempts by activists to barricade the reactor.
Earlier on Thursday, villagers and anti-nuclear activists made an attempt to besiege the nuclear plant, but police dispersed them and thwarted their attempt.
Meanwhile, the countdown for loading of enriched uranium fuel in the first reactor of the plant has started. As per authorities, the fuel loading process will start on September 11 and complete by September 15.
The Kudankulam nuclear plant is a product of the Inter-Governmental Agreement hit between India and the former USSR in 1988.
