PM suggested to ban future trading

PM's Working Group On Consumer Affairs suggested ban on future trading of essential items. Working Group on Consumer Affairs, led by Gujarat Chief Minister also asked government to liberalize agriculture markets by promoting organized retail. Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra are also member of the group.

An official release by group suggests its view on future trading of essential items "Considering lack of strong linkages between spot and future markets at present, the Modi Report suggested that for the time being, essential commodities should be kept out of the futures market".

This Group also made 20 recommendations with 64 action points. Other recommendations include setting up of special courts for early trials, setup of a price stabilization fund by Centre, a ministerial level mechanism for coordinated policy making and priority sector lending to agro-marketing activities among others. This report also includes fast reforms of APMC Act. Group also recommended changes in distribution channel.

This Working Group was set back in 2010 to find and analyze ways to control inflation make retail sector more favorable to consumers. Group presented Indian prime minister this report on Monday. Breaking the tradition of handing voluminous reports, Group presented PM a document with precise analysis of recommendations and 63 actionable points.
