PM to address telecom sector’s concernsPrime Minister Manmohan Singh ahs assured telecom service providers in the country that he will work to address their concerns.

He said that his government will focus on creating favorable policy framework for the growth of the telecom sector in the country, which has seen an enormous scandal involving senior politicians and private individuals.

"I am aware of some concerns of the telecom industry regarding government policies in the telecom sector, I wish to reassure industry of the government's full commitment to sustaining growth, creativity and enterprise in this vitally important sector of our economy," Dr. Singh said.

He was speaking India Telecom Summit, organised by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and Ficci. The assurance comes after the 2G spectrum sale scandal that is believed to have cost a loss of $ 38 Billion dollars to the Indian authorities, led to a host of arrests and tarnished the image of the industry in India.

The PM had recently met heads of five top private sector telecom companies in India, who expressed concerns over the lack of spectrum and ban on sharing airwaves. Bharti Airtel chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal, Reliance Group chairman Anil Ambani, Aditya Vikram Birla Group chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla, Vodafone Group chief executive Vittoria Collao and Tata Sons director Ishaat Hussain held the meeting with the PM to inform him of their concerns.

The Pm also said that he assures the telecom players that the government will adopt forward-looking policies for the growth of the sector in the country.
