Plane makers gather in Paris for Air Show
Plane makers with their large and small offerings are gathering in the French Capital, Paris for the famed Paris Air Show, which is set to begin on Monday.
Experts have said that this year the Air Show would see tough competition for the wide-body jets. The event is likely to see traditional rivals; Airbus and Boeing compete against each other for orders as both focus on deployment of next-generation long-range jets. The much-anticipated Airbus A350 flew for the first time on Friday increasing competition between the European plane maker and Boeing.
Boeing has been the dominant player in the market with its 787 but the aircraft has seen issues with lithium ion batteries that had forced airlines to ground their fleets for months. The company has replaced the old faulty battery with a new battery system that is safeguarded against overheating. The older battery issue caused the system to overheat and resulted in fires.
The CEO of Airbus parent EADS, Tom Enders has indicated that he is expecting new orders for the large size jets. Airbus delivered 588 planes while Boeing moved ahead with 601 deliveries during the year.
