Phenomenal Pacquiao destroys Hatton in second-round knockout

Phenomenal Pacquiao destroys Hatton in second-round knockout Las Vegas - Filipino boxing sensation Manny Pacquiao demolished Briton Ricky Hatton with a stunning second-round knockout in their junior-welterweight title bout in Nevada Saturday night.

Cementing his claim as the world's best boxer pound-for-pound, perhaps of all time, Pacquiao shocked the hard-driving Hatton with a sweeping right hook that dropped him to the canvas in the first round.

The southpaw Pacquiao followed up with a combination shortly after the standing eight-count, sending the Hatton down for the second time in the opening round.

In the second round, Pacquiao drilled a devastating overhand left that knocked Hatton unconscious, ended the bout that took less time than the singing of three national anthems during the introduction.

Pacquiao improved his record to 49-3 with two draws, racking up his 37th knockout. Hatton fell to 45-2, losing at junior welterweight for the first time in his career.

The Filipino's awesome display secured his place among boxing's all-time greats, taking his six title in different weight classes. (dpa)
